Up in the Air

Up in the Air Up in the AirCourtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment, we have Jason Reitman’s Up In The Air, a bittersweet story starring George Clooney as a man constantly on the road.

Clooney plays a consultant who sees himself as a ‘transitional facilitator’ for the recently unemployed and enjoys the lack of attachments of any kind. He suddenly finds his lifestyle threatened by both the introduction of remote termination system at work, and an encounter with a fellow traveller with whom he seems to have more in common than he’d like to admit.

It’s not only a meditation on loneliness, but also an incisive social commentary about the de-humanisation of the workplace and the psychological impact of corporate downsizing.

Filmmakers should also note the excellent use of brand integration – hotels and airlines – and local production rebates attracting films to new destinations.

  4. Transit for work through Bangkok – Great culture, even better food and beautiful countryside and a great snapshot of a retirement plan. Get out of the cities though.
