South Australian filmmaker wins Beijing Pitching Competition with superhero story
South Australian filmmaker Brendon Skinner has won the Beijing Pitching Competition for his film The Pulse, an Australian-Chinese co-production.
Skinner was selected from sixteen emerging filmmakers from China and the Asia Pacific.
The Pulse, an adventure superhero story is set in Sydney and was conceived with co-director and co-producer Simon Williams.

Emile Sherman, Ben Mendelsohn and Lizzy Gardiner have been recognised for their services to Australian arts with inclusion into 2012′s Who’s Who in Australia book.
Recognising high achievers in the arts as well as media, business, politics and sport, Who’s Who in Australia is an annual biographical publication.
Sherman, the Oscar-winning producer of The Kings Speech, Mendelsohn, actor of Animal Kingdom, and Gardiner costumer designer of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert are joined by other arts and media figures such as author and journalist Peter FitzSimons, appointed CEO of the Ten Network James Warburton, and Ten news presenter Helen Kapalos as well as entertainer Tim Minchin and Masterchef host Gary Mehigan.

Beck Cole’s debut feature film Here I Am premieres tonight on the ABC.
Here I Am is from the creators of Samson & Delilah, with Cole directing, Warwick Thornton (Samson & Delilah’s director) as cinematographer and producer Kath Shelper.
ABC’s Amanda Duthie appointed Adelaide Film Festival director
ABC’s Amanda Duthie has been announced as the incoming director and CEO of the BigPond Adelaide Film Festival.
Duthie replaces Katrina Sedgwick who will finish in the role at the end of 2011.
Duthie is currently the content head of arts and entertainment at the ABC.

Streaming film service Mubi added to Sony Australia’s roster
Sony Australia has included Mubi to its roster of on-demand and subscription movie services as of today.
Available on Sony’s Bravia internet TVs, blu-ray players and home theatre systems, Mubi joins film services Quickflix and Video Unlimited.
Edgerton’s Bear selected for Sundance Film Festival
Nash Edgerton’s short film Bear is to screen at Sundance Film Festival.
The film, which had its world premiere at Cannes this year will have its North American premiere at the Utah independent film festival, 19-29 January, in the international narrative short film division.
Bear is the follow up to short film Spider and is Edgerton’s fifth short film to be selected to Sundance in his 15 year career.

SBS launches Cultural Intelligence portal in preparation for televised forum
SBS today launched a new online resource called SBS CQ: Cultural Intelligence.
SBS CQ aims to bring together media commentators, experts and influencers to debate media and diversity.
The launch of CQ will be followed by a televised forum on December 22, 8.30pm on SBSTWO about the media’s role in the nation’s discussion about diversity in Australia.
Oranges and Sunshine’s Dany Cooper wins best editing at the Ellies
Dany Cooper ASE has won best editing in a feature film for her work on Oranges and Sunshine at the Australian Screen Editors Awards.
Nicknamed The Ellies, the awards were held last night at the Vanguard in Newtown, Sydney, hosted by actor comedian Rob Carlton (Underbelly, Paper Giants).
In addition to the awards, each year the guild gives accreditation to editors whose work is considered of a consistently high standard.
Screen Australia invests $17m in features and TV drama
Screen Australia has announced $17m investment across 14 projects including feature films and both adult and children’s television.
The investment is expected to trigger $97m in production.
The list of productions include: black comedy The Mule by co-writers/co-producers Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson with direction from Tony Mahony about a drug mule caught by authorities and Antony I Ginnane’s remake of Patrick, directed by Not Quite Hollywood’s Mark Hartley.
