A Single Man

A Single ManThis week we have tickets for the impressive directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford, A Single Man.

Against all odds and defying expectations, Ford has delivered a first rate picture, with an Oscar-nominated, BAFTA-winning performance from Colin Firth.

Firth plays a gay university professor trying to overcome the sudden death of his partner in 1960s California. A potential new love affair could bring him closer to redemption, but the memories of the dead lover are too strong.

Firth’s very measured yet touching grief contrasts with Julianne Moore’s exhuberance as a former lover lost in her own desperation. Powerful material that makes us want more from Ford.

Icon will release this film on February 25.
